Police Seize Over 1 Kg of Charas, Two Arrested in Shopian, Budgam

In a significant achievement against drug trafficking, police seized over one kilogram of charas and arrested two alleged peddlers in operations conducted in Shopian and Budgam districts on Monday.

The operation in Shopian unfolded when the Police Station Zainapora acted on specific intelligence. Authorities registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act and secured a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Shopian.

A police team, led by the SHO Zainapora alongside an Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, son of Sanaullah Sheikh, located in Humhuna Nagbal. During the search, law enforcement recovered one kilogram of a charas-like substance along with a grinder machine allegedly used for processing contraband. Police reported that the accused is currently absconding, and efforts to apprehend him continue.

“The crackdown is part of our ongoing efforts to tackle the drug menace in the region,” the police stated, emphasizing their commitment to controlling narcotics.

Simultaneously, a police team from Police Post Wachi intercepted a suspect at a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi. The individual, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh of Pombia Kulgam, was found with 101 grams of charas-like substance. Police registered a new case under FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Zainapora, continuing their vigorous campaign against drug-related activities.

In a parallel effort in Budgam district, authorities made another arrest during a routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora. The suspect, Moomin Qadir Dhobi, son of Gh. Qadir Dhobi from Dharambugh Kralpora, possessed 112 grams of charas-like substance at the time of his apprehension.

Subsequently, police registered FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chadoora. The drug enforcement operations reflect a growing trend of police activity aimed at intercepting the supply chain of narcotics in the region.

Officials are keen on reiterating the ongoing dangers posed by drug abuse and trafficking, which affects not only individual health but broader societal safety and wellbeing. Through comprehensive actions and community engagement, authorities aim to educate the public on the perils of drug misuse and to enforce strict laws against trafficking.
