Good People Avoiding Politics: Ex-President Kovind’s Call

Former President Ramnath Kovind on Thursday expressed concerns that “good people” are shunning politics, emphasizing the need for youth to engage actively in the nation’s political framework. Speaking at the annual Vijayadashmi rally of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) held at Reshimbagh ground in Nagpur, Kovind encouraged young individuals to embrace their role in shaping India’s future.

Kovind, who served as the 14th President of India from 2017 to 2022, noted influential figures such as RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar played pivotal roles in his personal and political philosophy. He stated, “I was inspired by the values of national unity and social harmony shared by Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Hedgewar. There is no casteism and discrimination in RSS,” he affirmed, highlighting the inclusive nature of the organization.

During his address, Kovind reflected on the teachings of Hedgewar, stating that the founder’s thoughts helped him gain a clearer understanding of the societal and national landscape. He stressed the urgency for capable individuals to enter politics, lamenting the absence of those with integrity in the current political arena. He called out, “Good people must not shy away from politics, as their contributions are crucial for a healthy democracy.”

In a significant announcement, the former President shared that he is authoring a book titled ‘Triumph of the Indian Republic’, aimed at portraying the journey and achievements of India’s political history since independence. This move aligns with his belief in inspiring future generations about the value and responsibilities of governance.

The Vijayadashmi rally commemorated the centenary celebrations of the RSS, an organization founded by Hedgewar on Dussehra in 1925. This year’s event emphasized the importance of remembering the organization’s historical context and reinforcing its mission of unity and service to the nation. Kovind’s statements resonated deeply with many attendees, who expressed enthusiasm for participating in political initiatives.

With India’s youth comprising a significant portion of the population, their involvement in politics could dictate the future course of the country. Experts point out that engaging young leaders can revitalize political discourse, ensuring it aligns with the aspirations of newer generations.

As the rally concluded, Kovind’s call to action carved a path for youth engagement, suggesting a renewed hope for meaningful political transformations in India. By fostering discussions around integrity and responsibility, he urged the upcoming generation to step forward and make their mark.
