Vishwakarma Day Celebrated with Traditional Reverence in Jammu

Jammu celebrated Vishwakarma Day today with immense religious fervor, marking the occasion with traditional rituals and prayers directed to Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect of the universe. This annual event typically occurs the day after Diwali, uniting technical workers, artisans, and industrial staff in their devotion.

As part of the observance, workers across various sectors declared a “no-work” day, dedicating their time to cleaning and servicing their machines and tools. This practice stems from the belief that prayers to Lord Vishwakarma not only protect them from accidents but also enhance the overall prosperity of their workplaces and organizations.

At the Vishwakarma Sabha Temple Complex, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, celebrations kicked off with a Hawan and special prayers aimed at invoking the blessings of the divine architect. Organised by the Vishwakarma Sabha, the event drew numerous dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma and MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta. The presence of J&K BJP President Sat Sharma and former Vice Chairman Kuldeep Raj Verma added to the occasion’s significance, demonstrating the robust support for the Vishwakarma community.

During the event, dignitaries extolled the virtues and contributions of Lord Vishwakarma, referring to him as the “divine engineer” and a source of inspiration for artisans and workers engaged in creation and design. They underscored the essential role of technical workers in the development of the nation and advocated for greater unity and welfare efforts within the Vishwakarma community.

The celebration took place seamlessly under the guidance of Kuljeet Rai (Chairman, Vishwakarma Sabha) and Vijay Kumar (Vice Chairman), alongside others including Rattan Lal Changotra and Om Parkash, showcasing effective organizational efforts.

In a parallel event at the Vishwakarma Temple, New Plots, Jammu, a Hawan and Bhajan Kirtan took place, overseen by Mohinder Lal (President of the Temple Committee), further enhancing the spirit of the day’s observance.

During his address, Mohinder Lal reiterated a pressing demand: recognizing Vishwakarma Day as a Gazetted Holiday. He stated, “Every worker appreciates an undeclared holiday on this day,” calling upon the government to officially acknowledge the cultural and industrial importance of this event by making it a public holiday.

Support resonated from attendees such as Ramesh Angotra, who advocated for the formal recognition of the day, emphasizing its significance within the cultural and industrial landscape of Jammu.

To conclude the day’s celebrations, a Langer (community feast) welcomed devotees, promoting unity and community spirit. The organizing committee, featuring members like Rattan Lal, Joginder Angotra, and Pappu Virdhi, ensured a successful gathering, enhancing connections within the community while commemorating their shared values.
