First-Ever Thrombolysis for Stroke at GMC Doda Saves Lives

Doda, Nov 2: In a significant milestone for emergency healthcare, the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda has performed its first-ever thrombolysis procedure on a stroke patient. This groundbreaking event is set to transform stroke management in the Chenab Valley.

This historical procedure took place under the leadership of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Head of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Amir Hussain Parray. The successful administration of this advanced treatment marks the first instance of such a timely intervention occurring locally.

The patient, identified as Roshan Lal, a resident of village Dolli in Gundna tehsil, presented with classic stroke symptoms. He arrived at GMC Doda and received immediate assessment and treatment from a proficient medical team. This included Dr. Govinder Kumar (MD Medicine), Dr. Divyanshu (Resident Doctor), and Dr. Momin (Intern), with strong technical and logistical support from Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and the nursing staff.

According to the medical team, Roshan responded positively to the thrombolytic therapy and has begun a steady recovery. This procedure highlights the importance of timely intervention in strokes, often referred to as a ‘brain attack’ due to its critical nature.

Previously, individuals suffering from acute strokes in Doda and surrounding regions faced the dilemma of being referred to GMC Jammu or other specialized centres, leading to loss of valuable time that could jeopardize patient outcomes. The successful execution of thrombolysis at GMC Doda ensures that patients can now access essential stroke care without delay.

Dr. Rakesh Bahl expressed great pride in the achievement, stating, “This is a landmark achievement for GMC Doda, showcasing our commitment to enhancing healthcare access for the people in remote areas who can now receive timely treatment.”

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Amir Hussain Parray added, “This success reflects our team’s growing expertise and dedication to improving emergency medicine. More than just a medical achievement, it represents hope and assurance for the Chenab region.”

The response from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive. Many residents view this success as a significant step toward bolstering rural healthcare infrastructure and safeguarding lives during the critical ‘golden hour’ immediately following a stroke onset.

This momentous achievement positions GMC Doda not only as a provider of welcome health services but also as a beacon of advanced medical care in one of the more underserved regions of India. With the growing capabilities of its medical teams, GMC Doda stands poised to lead in stroke management in the region.
