In a decisive operation, the Srinagar Police attached immovable property worth approximately ₹1.20 crore belonging to notorious drug peddler Nisar Ahmad Sheikh on Tuesday. This significant action falls under the ongoing 100 Days Campaign, part of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan launched to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking in the region.
Acting under the authority of Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, the Nowhatta Police Station executed this attachment in relation to FIR No. 61/2019 filed under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act. The confiscated assets include a fully renovated three-storey residential house, a separate single-storey concrete kitchen block with three washrooms, and a land parcel measuring 09 marlas.
Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, the property owner, is the son of Habibullah Sheikh and resides in Kani Dewar, Sheikh Mohallah, Hawal in Srinagar. Police investigations confirmed that Sheikh acquired the property with proceeds from illicit drug trafficking activities.
This action is part of Srinagar Police’s sustained efforts to dismantle the financial networks supporting drug trade operations. The department has been particularly vigilant in identifying assets linked to drug-related crimes, adhering strictly to legal protocols established under the NDPS Act.
The incident highlights the growing challenges posed by drug peddlers in Jammu and Kashmir, where law enforcement agencies remain resolute in their battles against the worsening drug crisis. Police officials emphasized the importance of community cooperation in this fight. They encourage the public to share any information on drug-related issues, which could significantly aid ongoing investigations and enforcement actions.
Authorities reiterate their commitment to intensify operations against not only drug peddlers but also the broader ecosystem that supports drug abuse in society. The Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan seeks to create awareness and foster community-led initiatives to combat drug misuse and trafficking.
Jammu and Kashmir continues to face challenges with narcotics stretching back years, and law enforcement is implementing a series of steps, including community engagement, counseling for addicts, and stringent legal action against offenders, to turn the tide against this social menace.
This integration of community support and law enforcement signifies a holistic approach towards establishing a drug-free environment in Jammu and Kashmir. The public’s active participation is seen as a vital component in shaping a safer, healthier future for the region.
