RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed over 7000 swayamsevaks on Thursday at the centenary Vijayadashami function in Nagpur, focusing on the importance of ‘vyakti nirman’ (character building) as the organisation’s guiding principle.
During the landmark speech, Bhagwat reaffirmed that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has resisted multiple temptations to enter politics over its 100-year journey. He shared insights from this century-long legacy, emphasizing the enduring commitment to social reforms through character development.
“The RSS has been offered various temptations to engage in politics, but we have stayed true to our mission of character building and community service through our shakhas,” he stated, highlighting the core focus of the organisation.
In outlining the challenges facing global reform, Bhagwat stressed the importance of a slow and steady approach. He asserted, “India must present a development model rooted in dharma as a holistic and inclusive framework.” He believes this model should resonate not just nationally, but worldwide.
Defining dharma as a principle that goes beyond mere rituals or traditions, Bhagwat called for social transformation through the embodiment of qualities like integrity and selflessness. He showcased these values as essential for the RSS’s mission and echoed the need for active social leadership.
Bhagwat pointed to India’s rich diversity in languages, faiths, lifestyles, and traditions, framing this pluralism as a pillar of strength. “All communities, even those who follow different religions, contribute to the broader Indian identity,” he added, advocating for harmony and mutual respect.
Addressing a disturbing trend of communal discord, Bhagwat condemned any form of hooliganism. He urged law enforcement agencies to act impartially and maintain social order. Furthermore, he called on the youth and society to engage actively in safeguarding peace.
Bhagwat’s message resonates particularly with contemporary challenges, revealing both the promise and responsibility that comes with India’s diversity. The call for collective character development through values cultivated by the RSS aims to forge a path for sustainable social change.
The Vijayadashami event marked a significant milestone for the RSS, celebrating not only its foundation but also its unwavering dedication to character building amidst evolving societal landscapes.
