Minister for Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, emphasized the importance of preserving tribal heritage during the vibrant Tribal Mela held today at Sagra, Mendhar in Poonch. Addressing an enthusiastic crowd, he called for collective and sustained efforts to promote the values that shape the identity of communities in the Pir Panjal region.
During his speech, Rana highlighted that development must not come at the cost of cultural erosion. He warned against unchecked modern influences that threaten to dilute tribal customs and moral frameworks, advocating for an integrative approach that harmonizes progress and tradition.
Rana reiterated the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment to pursuing inclusive development. He stated that the goal is to cultivate a resilient, self-reliant tribal society firmly rooted in their traditions. The Minister praised the efforts of the Tribal Affairs Department and local administration for organizing the Mela, describing it as a meaningful step towards development with dignity.
The Tribal Mela drew a significant turnout from local residents and became a platform for showcasing tribal heritage, food, and traditional wisdom. Stalls featured indigenous cuisines, medicinal plants, and systems of healthcare knowledge, creating an engaging atmosphere of cultural exchange.
Moreover, a free medical camp offered consultations and essential services to the community, further reflecting the event’s holistic focus on health and wellness.
